| Skills | |
| Below are the programming languages and software applications that I have used effectively and repeatedly in both semi-professional and professional productions. I have been using computers from a very early age, and because of my autonomous nature, I can use pretty much every software application or programming language I come across productively after some (autonomous) training. | |
| Programming | Java, HTML, DHTML, JavaScript, PHP, ASP, SQL |
| These are the programming languages that I have used repeatedly. | |
| Graphic design | Photoshop, Illustrator, Quark Express, Dreamweaver, Flash, Plasma, Director, Première, AfterEffects, Combustion, 3D Studio MAX (including Character Studio), Rhinoceros3D |
| I have been using graphic design software for over 7 or 8 years now. My skills are 90% autonomous, and besides Plasma I have used every program named above in professional productions repeatedly. | |
| Sound design | Cakewalk, Cubase, SoundForge, CoolEdit, WaveLab, ProTools, Buzz |
| I have extensive knowledge on music-production, synthesis-techniques and applications, effects, production-techniques, MIDI, PA-setup; all applied in both home (software) studios and professional (software & hardware) studios). For my University, I taught Basic Synthesis Techniques, to 2nd year students, using proprietary software designed by a professor guiding the team: a DSP-programmer and me. (more details below, [BLOK]) | |
| Education | |
| 1993-1999 | VWO Highschool- Dongemond College - Raamsdonksveer |
| 1999-present day | MediaTechnologie - Hogeschool van Utrecht - (currently in the 4th and final year) |
| MediaTechnologie is a University-major where students are taught to be intermediates between the technical and design staff of any multimedia project; everything from websites and databases to audio, video and broadcast is covered by this major. As a result, the students gain a broad knowledge in both the technical and design areas in media. | |
| Sep. 2001 - Jan. 2002 | Internship - Valkieser Solutions |
| Valkieser Solutions (recently renamed UniteDesign) is a highly acclaimed, high-end multimedia and design company, and part of Valkieser Communications, European marketleader in many media areas, including broadcast-facilities, DVD-authoring, movie postproduction and audio (post)production. | |
| Relevant activities | |
| 1997-1999 | CollegeTalk - Highschool newspaper |
|
CollegeTalk is an award winning highschool newspaper from the Dongemond College in Raamsdonksveer.
My responsibilities:
| |
| 2000 | Joined the ISEA HeadQuarters staff |
|
ISEA, the InterSociety for the Electronic Arts, is an international association of artists who work with electronic art in its widest form and people acquainted with electronic arts. Every two years they organise a symposium, each time in a different country.
My responsibilities:

| 2001 | 'Movatar' performance by Stelarc |
| Stelarc is world-famous artist who explores and expands the limits of the human body using special (robot-)techniques. During the 'Movatar'-performance, organised for the opening of a new University-schoolbuilding, Stelarc was strapped into a hydrolical harness. By means of motion and sound he communicated with his virtual alter-ego in a computer. The harness controlled the movements of his upper body Stelarc himself had no control over those motions. The result was a spectacular audio-visual show which lasted 45 minutes.
My responsibilities: | |
| 2001 | Music, Graphics and camera-assistent kickbox-gala |
| My friends and I were responsible for the live multi-camera video-registration and projection of a yearly kickboxing-event.
My responsibilities: | |
| 2001 | VJ for Shockers |
| Shockers was the biggest indoor techno-party in Holland, with approximately 30,000 visitors. Together with two friends, Geert Mul, one of Holland's most famous VJ's (video-jockeys) invited us to help him create animations and make multiple realtime compositions (using VCR's, videomixers and proprietary software) during the 9 hour party. The result of our work was shown on projector-screens with a total surface of approx. 400 square feet.
My responsibilities: | |
| 2001 | 3D-modeller for 'Halima (A journey through cyberspace)' |
| Halima was a performance organised by SARA, Stichting Academisch Rekeninstituut Amsterdam. In the CAVE, the biggest Virtual Reality-environment in The Netherlands, spectators immersed in 3D-environments (based on the four elements), where a virtual representation of a dancer performed her choreography, guided by a band with Franky Douglas as the head. Direction and artdirection were in hands of "Gouden Kalf"-awardwinner Felix de Rooy. Halima staged numerous times throughout The Netherlands.
My responsibilities: | |
| 2001 - 2002 (during internship) | Internship, participated in numerous multimedia productions, including:
My responsibilities
|
| 2002 | Animations for kids' show 'Circus Kiekeboe' |
| 'Circus Kiekeboe' is the equivalent of 'Sesame Street', but for a younger audience, aged 2 - 5. The characters, staged in a circus near a big farm, are both real actors and puppets. The show is created for a multi-cultural audience, and is aired multiple times per week - subtitled and the vocals redubbed different in languages. Plans are being made to air the show in countries other than The Netherlands.
My responsibilities: | |
| 2002 | Started own company: frambooz |
| In the beginning of 2002, I decided to start my own one-man company, working on jobs on a freelance basis. Since then, I have worked on numerous multimedia products in the following areas:
Working areas:
| |
| 2002 | Multi-media performance <LiNK> |
| For ISEA2002, fellow-students and I from MediaTechnologie organised a multi-media party / performance. In a club, people could do their own realtime video-compositions projected on a large screen (three projections on top of and next to each other), while listening and dancing to DJ-sets from DJ's in other parts of The Netherlands their music was streamed to the club thru the Internet, while visitors could watch them on a webcam and chat using IRC. The whole happening was filmed using multiple cameras, edited live and broadcasted over the internet.
My responsibilities:
| |
| 2002 | Teaching music class, design and production of accompanying educational software |
| In MediaTechonologie, I helped one of my teachers, Paul Go, to give his music-classes. While preparing one of his classes, the idea sprouted of creating an educational softwaretool that would allow students to learn the basics of sound synthesis. The software woudl give them the opportunity to build their own software synthesizers (with very basic functionality) using a modular setup. We contacted one of my friends, a well-gifted professional DSP-programmer, to do the hard DSP-coding and produced [BLOK], an educational software tool to make students familliar with the basics of sound synthesis. The program consists of a clear, user-friendly interface and has the most basic synthesizer-modules built in: oscillators, noise-generators, LFO's, envelopes, filters and scopes to monitor the generated signals. These modules allow students to experiment with synthesis-techniques such as additive, substractive, AM and FM synthesis, while learning and understanding the inner structure of common synthesizers. At the end of the class, all the knowledge is put into a real-life perspective by relating it to common software and hardware synthesizers.
My responsibilities:
| |
| 2002 | TV Identity animations |
| In the summer of 2002, Valkieser Solutions hired me again to do a couple TV Identity animations for a Dutch TV-show aswell as for a Dutch kids TV-network.
My responsibilities: | |
| 2002 | Multi-camera registration & webcast of Haarlem Jazz Festival |
| In Haarlem, one of Hollands' larger cities, every year a big jazzfestival is organised: the Haarlem Jazz Festival. For five days, the whole city is about jazz. My friends and I got together a crew of enthousiastic cameramen and editors. For two days we filmed the shows given on the largest stage of the festival using multiple cameras. Everything was edited live, streamed to the internet.
My responsibilities:
| |
| 2003 | VJ performances with Egoplastiek |
| I joined Egoplastiek, a group of friends who started VJ'ing for bars, clubs and shows. We provide visual entertainment by creating a live composition of video-footage, to go with the atmosphere and performing acts, using both software and hardware video-mixing tools.
My responsibilities:
| |
| 2003 | Reviving the Senster |
| I am the leader of the group of students working on a school project destined to bring the Senster, an old robot, back to life both in a virtual and real environment. The Senster was a large robot staged at the Evoluon, a museum owned by the Dutch company Philips, to display all kinds of scientific and technical phenomena and experiments. After closing the Evoluon in the early '80s, the Senster was dismantled and found its final resting place at the company which created it, Verburg. For our school project, we visited the remains of the Senster multiple times, took measurements and gathered information on the robot's structure and behaviour so we could recreate a virtual and real scale-model. The project is currently still going; information can be found here.
